Common Problems Troubleshooting Steps
Cannot automatically install the driver & Web GUI the first time The computer may not have opened the Auto Run function. Please go to "My Computer"->CD Rom with name "Tata Photon Wi-Fi", open it and run the autorun.exe manually.
Cannot find the device by Web GUI Please check whether it can find the device from Device Manager. If not, please check whether you can see the CD Tata Photon Wi-Fi" from "My Computer". If so, then eject the CD.
Cannot search signal on Web GUI Please check whether the number you used is activated or not. Please contact operator whether the parameters are configured correctly.
Cannot connect to internet by Web GUI Please check whether it can search signal by We GUI first. Please check whether the Modem configuration of PC is ok or not.
Device is not detecting in MAC OS Please check the drivers (HuaweiDataCardDriver.kext) are present in the following path /System/Library/Extensions. If not present please reinstall the application.
Device is detecting in MAC OS, But not showing signal strength Please check with the operater if the device is activated or not
Insert T-Flash Card After Insert the T-Flash Card in the Device, Connect Device to Computer, you need to Install the Dialer and then Open "My computer" – Removable Disk.
microSD card is not recognized The card is not inserted correctly or is of the wrong size / format. Re-insert the card or try another microSD card and make sure the capacity and format is correct.
PC not able to detect Device Change to another USB Port or if the problem still exists, please contact local Operator
Firewall Security Alert appears during Connection Device must be allowed to connect through your firewall. Please contact the vendor of your firewall software In order to work correctly.
After restarting the computer, there is no signal indicated Please check if the Device is connected Properly, Check the Network Coverage or pull out the Device and reinsert the Device again.

Photon 3G (Setting and Operations)

The Minimum System requirements are as follows: Windows XP(SP2 or later)/Vista Windows 7 (NDIS6.2 not supported) Mac OS 10.4 and above configuration (Recommended):

  • CPU Pentium III or above.
  • Hard Disk 50M or above.
  • RAM 128M or above.

The software installation process for the modem is automated; simply connect the Modem to an available USB port on your computer and then wait for a moment for the installation to begin. Note, if you are using an Apple MAC OS, please install software by using the incidental Compact Disc and configure the CD-ROM, and you can get these from the driver CD, if you dont have a driver CD, please contact with your suppliers for details.

Windows Vista contains Enhanced Security Features, which warn you when any application attempts to install. Please Select Allow to begin the Software installation.

The system configuration is not suitable for the auto-run, If the system does not launch installation automatically, you can run the installation program in path of My Computer > Tata DOCOMO 3G. If you have installed the other version of installation program please uninstall it firstly.

Please install the driver program manually. The driver program can be found in the installation address.

If the system configuration is not proper, this maybe happen. Please open the UI program manually. You can find it in the Windows Quick start menu or the shortcut on the desktop.

  • The installation programs of the Tata DOCOMO 3G haven't been installed properly Solution: Run the installation program first, then connect the modem. If you use the Win XP operating system, install the drivers according to the Windows indication information to operate
  • The modem isn't connected well Solution: Restart the computer, or connect the modem again.
  • The SIM/USIM card isn't inserted well, such as inserted in reverse Solution: Insert the SIM/USIM card correctly again.
  • The modem isn't connected well Solution: Restart the computer, or connect the modem again.

Photon 3G (Network Connection)

  • Check whether the network of modem is locked. If it is, the modem can not be used internationally.
  • Check whether the roaming service of USIM card is enabled. If not, contact with network service provider.
  • Contact with supplier to check the APN settings.

In order for the Tata DOCOMO 3G software to work correctly, it must be allowed to connect through your firewall. Select the appropriate option for example Allow, unblock or Permit. If you require further information on how to configure your firewall to allow this application please contact the vendor of your firewall software.

Once the Software reports that it is connected, IE will automatically launch DOCOMO home page. Easy links to popular web pages are available on the UI. Alternatively you can Open the web browsed and enter desired web address to start browsing.The Default Internet Browser on a PC is Internet Explorer; this is normally located on your Start menu and can be identified by a Blue "e" icon.

  • You are in the place where no GSM/DATA/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA network covered, such as underground parking lot, tunnel etc. Solution: Change to the place where having good signal.
  • The network at this time in this place is busy now. Solution: Try later.
  • The APN in the configuration files is incorrect. Solution: Check the APN in the Settings-> Connection.
  • The modem data is error. Solution: It is perhaps the DATA or WCDMA network problem and please contact with the local supplier in time.
  • The network type selected using manual search is wrong. Solution: Select the correct network type according to the type of the SIM/USIM card.
  • After connection, there is no data transfer, which resulted that you cannot open web pages. Solution: Check that the APN configured in the settings menu of UI is correct or not.
  • The IE browser has got problems. Solution: upgrade to the new version or reinstall the IE browser.
  • The operating system is infected by virus. (Such as Worm.Blaster which can take up a quantity of upload data flow and result that it can't receive downloaded data flow so that you cannot open any website) Solution: Use the professional anti-virus software to check and kill the virus in the operating system completely.
  • You have connected to other APN, which cannot connect to the Internet. Solution: Recheck configurations in settings menu and try again.
  • You are in the place where no GSM/DATA/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA network covered, such as underground parking lot, tunnel etc. Solution: Use Swivel option to place the modem in upright position. Change to the place where having good signal
  • The modem isn't connected well. Solution: Pull out and insert the modem cable safely again.
  • The SIM/USIM card isn't inserted well, such as inserted in reverse. Solution: Insert the SIM/USIM card correctly again.
  • The position of the Tata DOCOMO 3G inner antenna is unfitting. Solution: Adjust the angle of the Tata DOCOMO 3G to point to the direction of better signal. Use Swivel option to place the modem in upright position.

Photon 3G (SMS and Call)

Check capacity of the microSD card, the maximum supported capacity is 32GB. Solution: Check if the card is inserted properly. If problem persists, Use another microSD card.

Photon 3G (Dialer/UI)

There will be various functional button icons shown in the main interface. Select different functional button to carry out corresponding operation.

  • Connect: Connect to Internet.
  • Settings: Set normal r
  • elative information for the application software.
  • Menu: Open the Log , help and other windows

On the main UI screen, the network status will be indicated as follows:

  • R -Roaming
  • E- Edge network
  • 2G - DATA/GSM network
  • 3G - UMTS/HSPA

Signal strength indicated graphically through increasing bars. No Bar means no/poor signal and all Bars indicate very good signal.

Photon Wi-Fi Hub is a portable Wi-Fi device that fits in the palm of your hand. It will allow you to connect up to 5 devices to access the Internet, such as laptops, portable game consoles or mobile phones

Photon Wi-Fi Hub operates on GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/CDMA 1X/CDMA EV-DO/HSPA

Photon Wi-Fi Hub supports advanced Wi-Fi security protocol through standard methods such as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA & WPA2) and the previous method of Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). More advanced settings are available in the Web based user interface.

Photon Wi-Fi Hub can be restored to the factory default settings by pressing the button 10 times continuously. The device will restart automatically to indicate reset is successful.

With multiple devices or used as a temporary hotspot:

  • If there are several heavy data users on at the same time, you may notice the degradation in performance.
  • Users are not allowed to access more than 5 devices to Photon Wi-Fi Hub in order to keep the devices’ data speed stable enough to be communicated without a problem.
  • If all are accessing Photon Wi-Fi Hub that is using the battery, the battery will be consumed faster than the average of 4 hours usage time for one user.

Photon Wi-Fi Hub can be charged when connected to a computer via USB cable, and no interferences to the device.

If Photon Wi-Fi Hub operating temperature increases above 65?, the device will automatically shutdown to prevent any damage.

Photon Wi-Fi Hub only support to receive text message

Photon Wi-Fi Hub does not support removable memory storage.

The battery must be fully charged before using Photon Wi-Fi Hub for the first time. We recommend a minimum of 4 hours charging time before first use.

Photon Wi-Fi Hub comes with a browser URL that allows the user to configure the device. You can activate, select a profile, establish security and set more advanced settings without installing any software.
